Greater Houston Manufacturing Association (GHMA) Overview

Why a Manufacturing Association

More companies choose to manufacture their products in Houston than any other U.S. city, with operations ranging from oil & gas support, food and beverages, electronics to plastics and metals:
  • 4,000 manufacturing establishments
  • 250,000 skilled workers focused in manufacturing
  • Over $63 billion in manufacturing output
  • Houston metropolitan area accounts for 31% of the total value of Texas manufacturing shipments
Houston has been successful in developing and expanding the manufacturing industry. However, we need to improve the support services and infrastructure for the industry. The GHMA will fill the need for a pro‐active organization committed to enhancing the economic strength of its individual manufacturers and enhance the prosperity of the industry and region as a whole during these ultra competitive times that all businesses are facing.

San Antonio, Dallas and the border regions have done a great job organizing and representing the common interests of the manufacturing community to local, state and federal initiatives. They have found that these efforts have resulted in better profits and improvement in the impact of government involvement in their operations. Its time Houston manufacturers work together.

Importance

The importance of forming the GHMA is to promote the common interest of the manufacturing industry and develop the strategies and resources to ultimately:
  • Build a community of manufacturers to establish long term mutually beneficial relationships between manufacturers.
  • Establish a personal network to create and share regional revenue opportunities
  • Growing relevant and strategic manufacturing trade skills in our region through cooperative partnerships with our local education partners
  • Represent the collective voice and priorities of the manufacturing community to the local and state representatives.
What we are asking of you

We are asking you to commit to be a part of a strong core of founding members to build an organization and launch the GHMA in our region. Through your committed involvement in the GHMA, participants will expand their understanding of issues and opportunities facing our manufacturing industry, develop new contacts in complementary fields, and positively impact the economic prosperity of our industry.

You have been indentified as an industry leader and want to extend this limited invitation to a core group that will ultimately steer the mission and objectives for Houston’s manufacturing association.
